If you really want the full New York City experience, you've got to make a trek out to all five boroughs, including the one-of-a-kind area of Queens. Home to MoMA PS1, the New York Hall of Science, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, and the Queens International Night Market, there's plenty to see in do in Queens. Queens International - Queens Museum
Through February 24, 2018 - Queens

QI 2018 is the eighth iteration of the Queens International, and it will continue in the tradition of presenting the artistic vibrancy of the borough through contemporary cultural production, with the curatorial team relying on the perspectives of Queens artists through the open call to help determine the most urgent and pertinent themes of the moment. However, QI 2018 will also be approached as a research project, giving consideration to the history of the International itself–mining the programmatic characteristics, themes, and demographics of the prior exhibitions for insight on the ways Queens, the Queens Museum, and their relationship have changed over time, and positing the forces that have influenced both differences and constancies.

Remy (Patton Oswalt), a resident of Paris, appreciates good food and has quite a sophisticated palate. When he winds up in the sewer beneath one of Paris' finest restaurants, the rodent gourmet finds himself ideally placed to realize his dream.

Small Folk Story Hour - American Folk Art Museum Collections and Education Center
September 15, 2018 - Long Island City

Co-organized by the Chocolate Factory Theater in Long Island City, Queens, this program for pre-k and elementary school aged small folk will feature a story selected by Sheila Lewandowski, Co-Founder and Director of the Chocolate Factory Theater, followed by an interactive gallery scavenger hunt led by educator Nicole Haroutunian.

Artrates Art Group Show at The Local NY - The Local NY

For the next four months, vendors will also be selling Christmas and holiday gifts, decorations and linens. Touch a Truck and Family Festival - Cross Island YMCA

Join us for our 5th annual Touch-a-Truck Fundraiser on Saturday, September 22nd. This event gives kids a chance to encounter working trucks and vehicles they see in everyday life up close and personal. Kids climbed inside, touched and explored the trucks they see every day! (Plus other cool vehicles). All the proceeds of this event go to benefit the YMCA Annual Support Campaign. The YMCA Annual Support Campaign allows children to take part in our Summer Camp, Early Childhood Classes and many other YMCA programs. In 2018, we will provide over $279,000 in financial assistance to more than 250 local youth and families in need of YMCA programs and services. The Fall Festival will also offer families a day of fun, food and entertainment with activities such as arts and crafts, bounce houses, pumpkin picking, games, face painting, music, raffles and family friendly vendors, and YMCA open house. Vehicles have included: FDNY Fire Truck, NYPD patrol car, Glen Oaks Volunteer Ambulance, Long Island Jewish Ambulance, Emblem Health RV, Game Truck, NYCB Bucket truck, Con Ed Cable Truck, Department of Sanitation and US Army Humvee.

Carried on Both Sides: Encounter Three - Knockdown Center

Knockdown Center is pleased to present Carried on Both Sides: Encounter Three, a collaborative project by artists Caroline Woolard, Helen Lee, and Lika Volkova on view August 30 – November 4, 2018. Founded in research and expressed across media, the exhibition explores the visual, political, and material lineage of the @ symbol to assert that imperial forms long outlive the empire from which they were generated. The project consists of three exhibitions over the course of a year, culminating at Knockdown Center in its final and most comprehensive presentation. For Knockdown Center, the artists incorporate sculpture, installation, fashion, and glass blowing to create new artifacts that reference what the group calls "imperial residues" of ancient Rome that are embedded in the contemporary world. These residues appear in daily life, from architectural columns on buildings and the figure of the bald eagle on the dollar bill, to the ubiquitous @ symbol. The @ symbol derives from a graphic representation of the amphora, a vessel used in ancient Rome to transport goods like olive oil or grains. The project's title references the amphora's original meaning – to "carry on both sides" – ... (read more)
