Pleasure Jams ft Kraak & Smaak (DJ set) - C'mon Everybody
January 26, 2018 - Brooklyn

KRAAK & SMAAK Since the Dutch producers trio Kraak & Smaak released their first album 'Boogie Angst' in the UK, the Netherlands, the USA and Japan in 2005, the boys' live band has grown into a steady and well-respected force in today's international club and festival scene. Initially the live band was put together solely as a one-off promotional tool for their first album. But with that premiering show in Amsterdam, with its energetic mix of funk, disco and house, plus a heavy dosis of rock 'n roll attitude, it impressed people so much that they quickly decide to embark on a follow up by organizing a first club tour in the Netherlands. PLEASURE JAMS Treatz, Marosy, and Stewey Decimal are three djs who like play disco, house, and all-around pleasurable jams.

Has released 2 solo albums and is now a full time freelance photographer for many individuals and labels, including Diddy, Cassie and Bad Boy Records. Rich Medina For the past two decades, Rich Medina has cemented his reputation as an elite DJ, one of few on the planet capable of taking audiences worldwide on a sonic journey through hip-hop, house, soul, afrobeat, funk, breaks and dance classics. Today, many artists who have been Rich's idols have become peers, and his fans often become his friends, even if just through the shared experience of music. Countless couples and relationships were commenced to the soundtracks he has created time and time again. His eloquence extends well beyond the music he plays—Medina's spontaneous use of language speaks to the fact that he's been a well-respected spoken word artist for over a quarter century, not to mention that he's a journalist who has contributed columns and features to a wide variety of publications, including The Fader, Complex and Wax Poetics. His commanding physical presence is a constant reminder of four y... (read more)

Crushed, Katie Rex, Vveiss, Xiorro, Salem Hilal - Mercury Lounge
January 27, 2018 - New York

Katie Rex To New York City's dance floors, the name Katie Rex, is a familiar mainstay. With roots beginning in the Philadelphia rave scene, her passion for the underground has crossed genre boundaries and culminated into an in-depth knowledge of music and cultural trends after dark. Inspired by the classic sounds of Detroit & Chicago as well as the hammering influence of EBM and invigorating sounds of dance music's contemporaries, she curates a unique blend of dark acid bass lines with club inspired drum patterns into harsh industrial. A fresh face in Brooklyn's underground techno community, Xiorro caused ripples in Brooklyn's space continuum throughout 2017 as co-founder of ALKHEMY and resident DJ of The Black Hole, ALKHEMY's monthly party. There, he introduced his taste for dark, fast, industrial techno. Xiorro has played as support amongst distinguished acts such as D. Carbone, Mørbeck, Paul Birken, Donor, Patrick Russell, Mary Yuzovskaya, Philipp Strobel, Ayarcana, Ontal and Plural. A true proponent of highlighting diversity in the underground scene and preserving the original concept of the rave, Xiorro speaks to his crowd through rattling, progressive and high-hitting s... Beats In Space presents: Palmbomen II (Live), Veronica Vasicka, Tim Sweeney - Good Room
January 27, 2018 - Brooklyn

Line-up / Beats In Space Presents: Palmbomen II (live) - Memories of Cindy release party Veronica Vasicka Tim Sweeney Palmbomen II is celebrating the release of his new album Memories of Cindy with a live set. With the release on January 26 on Beats in Space, the record is an intimate collection of eulogic, supernatural house music made for a muse and to bemuse those who make (first) contact. A haunted memory hole of hardware grooves, celestial synth pads and lonesome vocals, Kai Hugo's warped west coast vantage has never seemed so surreal but certain. Minimal Wave founder Veronica Vasicka is joining the Beats in Space party. Since starting MW in 2005, Vasicka's record digging and tireless archival work has shone a light onto a generation of obscure bands and producers. Much like her label, Vasicka's DJ sets focuses on overlooked DIY synth and industrial records from the '70s and '80s. Its musical remit soon became a kind of genre in its own right. Vasicka runs another label, Cititrax, which she uses to release new music that doesn't fall into the Minimal Wave sphere. The night will be helmed Beats in Space founder Tim Sweeney. Running every Tuesday night on WNYU, th... (read more)

Planetarium: Voyager Golden Record Session with Justin Carter and Josh Dunn - Nowadays
January 28, 2018 - Ridgewood

Line-up / Josh Dunn Justin Carter Planetarium is an immersive hi-fi listening session. We clear the floor between our custom speakers, so you can bring pillows, blankets, sleeping bags or anything else you like to get comfortable. Lie on the floor, stretch out on the couch, and get lost in music. Tonight's edition of Planetarium is dedicated to the Golden Voyager Records. In 1977 NASA shot two crafts into space, each one equipped with a pair of golden records. Contained on the records are images and sounds of earth: greetings in 55 languages, whale songs, rumbling engines, and, of course, music – everything from a Gamelan orchestra to Stravinsky to Johnny B. Goode. The hope is that one day, perhaps millions or even billions of years from now, the records will serve as a message to the inhabitants of some distant planet. This evening, we play reproductions of the golden records in their entirety and try to imagine what it might be like to hear these sounds of earth for the very first time. Josh Dunn and Justin Carter will play other interstellar music before and after the airing of the golden records.
