The Annual Instructor Salon 2021
(New York, NY): The Art Students League of New York presents its Annual Instructor Salon, which has launched its Fall exhibition season since the late nineteenth century. This year’s exhibition features work by a group of nearly 100 accomplished, diverse League instructors and exemplifies their resiliency and innovation in these unprecedented times. The exhibition reflects the broad range of approaches and techniques of these contemporary artists, and in doing so, also reflects the breadth of the instruction available at The League. The Annual Instructor Salon is on view September 20–October 23, 2021. This year’s Salon will exhibit work by instructors who have spent the past year adapting their practices to a rapidly changing environment, while connecting with more students than ever before through the League’s newly expanded offerings of online classes. This Fall, students and instructors return to The League to resume its renowned studio-based arts education, but also to celebrate the exciting new milestones adaptability and perseverance have allowed The League to reach. This year’s Annual Instructor Salon, after a year of much-needed reflection, foreshadows our creative future. Notable artists who have had their work displayed as a part of this historic tradition include Peggy Bacon, Thomas Hart Benton, William Merritt Chase, Norman Lewis, Charles Alston, Hilda Terry D’Alessio, Robert Henri, and Anita Steckel, among many others.

That independent spirit remains at The League today, where students pursue their work unconstrained by dogma, politics or burdensome tuition. We educate students in the language and process of making art in an environment where anyone who wishes to pursue arts education can realize his or her full potential. The League fulfills this mission by offering affordable, high-quality education and instruction in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and assemblage. Artists who have studied at the League include Georgia O'Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, James Rosenquist and Ai-Weiwei, among others.
