Spring Registration Opens for Greenwich House’s Youth Performing Arts Programs
Due to the coronavirus, please call to ensure this event is still happening before you leave home.
Greenwich House after-school performing arts programming provides a creative outlet that enriches the lives of young people. Registration opens March 1.
Showstoppers is a performing arts class offered by Greenwich House Music School for ages 8 to 11, starting April 6. Over 12 weeks students will learn the art of storytelling through dance, movement and music. Every class will begin with a physical and vocal warm up followed by a fun, collaborative exploration of both traditional and contemporary musical theater. Ars Nova teaching artist Ellen Winter and choreographer/dancer Traci Lee will facilitate the in-person class at the Greenwich House Theater, a large off-Broadway theater venue. For children ages 5 to 7, the Young Actors Workshop offers opportunities to explore multicultural stories through movement, music, visual art and dramatic play, beginning April 7. Students become sly tricksters, wild animals and clever heroes as they bring exciting and diverse tales to life. Problem solving, creative expression, communication and teamwork will be practiced weekly.
In Comedy/Improv, students ages 8 to 11 will apply improvisation skills and comic techniques to create original comedy sketches in the zany and irreverent style of Saturday Night Live and Whose Line Is It Anyway?, starting April 8. Theater games will encourage students to develop creative comic characters and explore vocalization, spontaneity and physicality in a fun and supportive environment.
Teaching artist Stephen Michael Rondel of The New Acting Company will lead both classes at the Greenwich House Youth Community Center.
