Bailen (exclusive WFUV live broadcast) - 4/24 - City Winery
April 24, 2019 - 2nd floor New York

Produced by GRAMMY-Award winner John Congleton (St. Vincent, The War on Drugs) the transcendent harmonies, striking arrangements and meticulous songcraft of BAILEN's debut album, Thrilled To Be Here, are rooted in the young group's unusual self-assurance, preternatural insight and potent lyrical bite.

Reigning Sound - Hank's Brooklyn
April 26, 2019 - Brooklyn

Cliff Westfall The Reigning Sound was born in Memphis, TN. Its daddy was a Flash & The Memphis Casuals 45 and its mother a Barbara Pittman single. Cliff Westfall writes songs about heartache, loss, and addiction… you know, funny songs. Or he can turn on a dime and dive headlong into a sentimental weeper. The Kentucky native delivers with a mixture of wit and bravado that, for Westfall, is central to what country music is all about. His debut album, Baby You Win, appeared on multiple Best of 2018 lists, and received acclaim in publications including Saving Country Music, No Depression, Magnet, PopMatters, Country Music People (UK), Lonesome Highway (Ireland) and many others. Backed by a crew of some of NYC's finest musicians, his songs combine clever and insightful lyrics with classic honky tonk hooks.

Crystal Bowersox - The Madison Theatre
April 27, 2019 - Rockville Centre

Crystal Bowersox, a northwest Ohio native currently calling Nashville home, has built her life around music. For her, music was always the most effective form of catharsis, and she would play for anyone, anywhere. In her own words, "my guitar was an appendage. I couldn't live without it." Crystal moved to Chicago as a teenager, ultimately auditioning for the ninth season of American Idol. Crystal's time on the show proved to be well spent, as she immediately left the soundstage for the recording studio. Since her introduction to the world through television, Crystal has released two LPs, two EPs, and several singles. Additionally, she has used her talents to benefit several causes close to her heart and has become an advocate and inspiration for people living with Type 1 Diabetes. The accomplished singer-songwriter is set to release a new project – a live album, recorded at the Kitchen Sink Studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico, cleverly titled Alive. Not only is the title a play on words, representing the rawness of the tracks, but it pertains to the place where Crystal currently is in her life. That place is one of joy, fulfillment, and stability for Crystal and her eight-year-o... (read more)

Songs For Solidarity - First Unitarian Congregational Society
April 27, 2019 - Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY, The First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn (First Unitarian) will host Songs for Solidarity, on Saturday night, April 27, 2019 at 7:00PM. 100% of the proceeds will support several asylum-seeking immigrant families who are currently living with members and friends of the congregation. One family, a young mother and her son, were separated by ICE and held in detention centers for over two months. First Unitarian provided emergency housing in the church for that family and one other until a more long-term solution could be found. Funds from the concert will cover basic services such as food, medical needs, school supplies, and legal support. Kolot Chayeinu/Voices of Our Lives a progressive Jewish congregation in Park Slope, is a co-sponsor of the event. The concert will feature folk singers Judy Gorman and Lindsey Wilson, and musician and poet Mario Cancel, all of whom are volunteering their artistry. Over the past two years, the members of First Unitarian have committed themselves to immigrant justice through its immigrant solidarity committee. In May 2017, the congregation voted to become a sanctuary congregation at its Annual Meeting. Since that ... (read more)

Dopapod - The Capitol Theatre
April 27, 2019 - Port Chester

Symmetry defines Dopapod. The band and each of its seven albums sports a palindromic name, meaning it can be read the same forward as backward. More than that, balance has become the band's modus operandi, with the group consciously juggling the darker tones of heavy rock with lighthearted humor; synthesizing tastes of funk, jazz, bluegrass, electronica, and more within their complex improvisational compositions. During live shows, Dopapod is known for taking fans on a full-out journey, guiding attendees through periods of frenzied dance contrasted with moments of thoughtful contemplation. Since forming at Berklee College Of Music in 2007, Dopapod—composed of Eli Winderman (keys and vocals), Rob Compa (guitar and vocals), Chuck Jones (bass), and Neal "Fro" Evans (drums)—has racked up an enviable list of accomplishments: a flourishing fanbase across the country, yearly show counts tallying into the hundreds, and high-profile appearances at festivals like Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Summer Camp, High Sierra, and more. Most recently, in fall of 2017, the group released Megagem, the band's fifth studio album, which Glide Magazine called "simultaneously their most focused and thematical... (read more)

Street Art Pilgrimage in Bushwick - Street Art Pilgrimage
Through June 21, 2019 - Brooklyn

Bushwick has long enjoyed a reputation as a mecca for the world’s most illustrious street artists, who have radically altered its urban landscape. Residential, commercial, and industrial buildings have all served as large-scale canvases for muralists to engage with the history, sites, and people of one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in Brooklyn. However, local residents and visitors don't always have easy access to basic information regarding any given mural, such as artist biography, artistic motivation, or how the content and style relate to local architecture and the community's rich past. This carefully curated and independently researched tour is designed to provide greater context surrounding key works of art while simultaneously introducing guests to some of Bushwick's local establishments. Whether you’re a native New Yorker looking to find out more about the public art you walk past every day or a tourist in town looking for a less conventional excursion, this 1.5-hour tour offers in-depth information presented in a fun, engaging way. Unlike other tours, we'll only be focusing on a small number of murals, allowing us to dissect the symbolism and meaning as a group.
