Guess Who's Coming to Broadway: Celebs Hitting NYC Stages

The upcoming theatre season in New York is shaping up to be a good one if you like to see celebrities taking to Broadway stages. Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, and the Broadway debut of Danny DeVito are only the beginning!

If you’ve been feeling a bit diva-deprived because Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth hasn’t been around the Great White Way since she starred in On the Twentieth Century last year, take comfort. The tiny actress with the killer voice will be returningalbeit brieflyto perform a series of concerts at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre from November 2nd through the 13th.

Not surprisingly, Chenoweth’s showMy Love Letter to Broadwaywill feature a “handpicked selection of musical theater favorites”, most likely a number or two from her Tony turns as Lucy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Glinda in Wicked, along with songs from "The Art of Elegance," her new album, which is slated for release on September 23rd.

If falling under Chenoweth’s Lunt-Fontanne spell piques your passion for her innate irresistibility, keep in mind she’ll be one of the stars of the live broadcast of Hairspray playing Velma von Tussle alongside Broadway veterans Harvey Fierstein (Edna Turnblad), Jennifer Hudson (Motormouth Maybelle); Martin Short (Wilbur Turnblad), Rosie O’Donnell (Gym Teacher), Sean Hayes (Mr. Pinky), and Andrea Martin (Prudy Pingleton). It all happens on on December 7th on NBC.

Meanwhile, if you haven’t seen the gold standard stars filling up the cast list of Arthur Miller’s The Price launching previews February 16th and opening March 16th, you’ll be interested to know the latest star to sign on for this new production directed by Steppenwolf Theatre co-founder Terry Kinney is Emmy-winner Danny DeVito in his Broadway debut. He joins fellow Emmy winners Tony Shalhoub (who arrives with a couple of Tony nominations under belt) and, as Shalhoub’s brother, John Turturro who played Shalhoub’s agoraphobic brother on USA Network’s Monk.

Jessica Hecht, fresh from Fiddler on the Roof, is the sole female in the upcoming production of Arthur Miller's The Price.

The sole female in the company is Jessica Hecht, fresh from starring as Golde opposite Danny Burstein’s Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. (Notably, Fiddler is scheduled to play its final performance on New Year’s Eve.) Hecht, incidentally, was nominated for a Tony for her performance in another Arthur Miller playA View From the Bridgeplaying opposite Liev Schreiber who, incidentally, will be starring in Les Liaisons Dangereuses on Broadway beginning October 8th.
