Since joining The Met in 1977, he has organized numerous exhibitions, including: Painting in Renaissance Siena; Andrea Mantegna; The Renaissance Portrait to Giambattista Tiepolo; El Greco; The Age of Caravaggio; Juseppe de Ribera; and Poussin and Nature.
