Listen to iconic masterpieces with new ears as NPR & PBS music commentator, conductor, composer, author and pianist Rob Kapilow shows you what you've been missing! Featuring the Manhattan School of Music Sinfonia Rob Kapilow and the Manhattan School of Music Sinfonia take on one of the greatest stories – and one of the most fascinating mysteries – in the history of classical music. For almost 200 years, scholars and historians have debated why Franz Schubert never finished his eighth symphony, one of the greatest, and most beautiful symphonies ever written. Rob will guide the audience through the symphony's two completed movements as well as perform the seldom-heard orchestration of the unfinished third movement while exploring the question of whether a piece of music can be unfinished, but somehow still complete.
