Where to Shop the Trends from New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week, held February 8 through 14th, just wrapped up in destinations in and around Manhattan. Designers offered buyers, A-listers, and other industry insiders a preview of what we’ll be wearing for Fall/Winter 2018. Flashbacks of ’80s-inspired looks, pops of optimism in a vivid color palette, and luxe materials such as leather took center stage. Here’s a look at some of the key trends, which certainly strayed from subtlety.

’80s-inspired

Marc Jacobs

In an era of strong women and clear messages, it’s no surprise that many designers showed silhouettes with strong-shoulders. Marc Jacobs spotlighted the trend. There was also a return to the power suit. Designers Jason Wu and Calvin Klein presented the look. Animal Instinct

Everyone’s wild about animal prints. Animal magnetism was in full swing on the runways at Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta, and Calvin Klein. Even accessories reflected the trend. Michael Kors showed a leopard print scarf draped over a tracksuit while Tom Ford cast the spotlight on some fun pale pink leopard tights. Meow! Track down the look at Century21 (c21stores.com), H&M (hm.com), or Macy’s (212-695-4400, 151 W. 34th St., macys.com).

Lovin’ Leather

For fall and winter, fashionistas will be cuddling up to long, dramatic leather coats. Alexander Wang presented a long black look, which reflected a hint of sheen. Black leather also paraded down the runway at Coach while Michael Kors mixed things up a bit by introducing a tailored coat in a softer camel hue. Pops of Color

Pantone Fall / Winter 2018

Bright hues ruled the runways at the recent shows. There were lots of bold pinks, including a fuzzy jacket by Michael Kors. Christian Siriano, Alexander Wang, and Prabal Gurung also dazzled audiences with pops of vibrant pink. Adam Selman presented a vibrant off-the-shoulder dress while Oscar de la Renta showed a pink dress with elegant black embellishments scattered across the top. The Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report Fall/Winter 2018 pointed to a bold palette of autumnal hues complemented by some more unexpected shades and a strong focus on self-expressive colors. Go bold! Explore a more vibrant palette at Banana Republic or Gap (bananarepublic.gap.com), and Macy’s (212-695-4400, 151 W. 34th St., macys.com).

Make a Statement: Tights

Say farewell to opaque black tights and make a statement with some fun and fab legwear. Embrace your sexy side with lacy peek-a-boo tights like the ones spotted on the runways of Alexander Wang or go bold with a dash of color. Saks Potts spotlighted bright pink tights and Tom Ford showed leopard-prints in a palette of bold colors. He also illuminated the runways with metallic hues such as gold lamé and silver. Find some fun fashion at Elegance (212-736-5306, 1 Pennsylvania Plaza in Penn Station) or Macy’s (212-695-4400, 151 W. 34th St., macys.com).
