The Hotel Edison opened in 1931 when Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb and the hotel’s namesake, turned on the lights at the grand opening. In a 1932 ad, the hotel boasted 1,000 rooms, “excellent banquet facilities,” and “scientifically air conditioned” suites. Gigantic and conveniently located above Times Square, Hotel Edison’s most attractive quality was its beautiful Art Deco design. Ever since, the hotel has been a center of New York glamour, from hosting movie stars and famous musical acts to being featured in movies like The Godfather.
Beautifully preserved and restored, Hotel Edison’s lobby greets you with high cream-colored ceilings painted with murals of city life. The rooms offer modern elegance with bright-white linens, views of the sparkling Theatre District, and C.O. Bigelow bath products. Signature Family Rooms can sleep up to 6 people, while their Signature Suite with Kitchenette allows your family to have a little apartment during your stay in the city.

Check out the fabulous drink and dining options in the hotel, which deliver delicious refreshments in swanky spaces. The Rum House is ideal for drinks after a Broadway show; Michael Keaton did just that in 2015’s Best Picture Birdman. Friedman’s, the hotel restaurant, serves up tasty, filling, farm-to-table fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (Word to the wise: order the blueberry pancakes and thank us later.)

Entertainment awaits in the hotel as well. Three evenings a week is the Complimentary Managers’ Reception with wine, snacks, and live music! You can also enjoy a free walking tour of the city as a guest of the Hotel Edison, whether you’d like to learn about Tribeca, Hell’s Kitchen, or the Times Square area itself.
