New York's Concert for America on Inauguration Day

Friday, January 20 will be a historic day for America, as Donald Trump officially ascends to the presidency. The Broadway community, however, will mark Inauguration Day with a benefit concert championing values that many view to be under threat in the incoming Trump administration: diversity, tolerance, and hope.

Described as a “star-studded benefit concert highlighting the diversity and hope that is America at its best,” Concert for America will take place at Town Hall on Friday, January 20 at 3pm. Tickets for the concert are priced at $25 to $50, and proceeds and donations will benefit a variety of human rights organizations, including Planned Parenthood, the NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, National Immigration Law Center, and the Sierra Club Foundation.

Currently slated to perform at the concert is a veritable “Who’s Who” of Broadway stars, including the legendary Chita Rivera, Rosie O’Donnell, Kelli O’Hara, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Betty Buckley, Andrea Martin, and Bebe Neuwirth. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will sponsor the concert, which is being presented by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley in association with Your Kids, Our Kids.

Other performers set to participate in the concert include Jessie Mueller, Billy Porter, Stephanie Mills, Rosie Perez, Charles Busch, Michelle Collins, Sharon Gless, Judy Gold, Anika Larsen, Javier Munoz, Julia Murney, Caroline Rhea, Keala Sette, and Lillias White.

For those who can’t make it to Town Hall, the concert will also be broadcast online through Facebook Live, and those interested in hosting or attending a Concert for America Watch Party can find out more here. The Associated Press reports that the January 20 event will be the first in a series of monthly benefit concerts.

"Hate comes from a lack of love, so we can't fight it with more of its own toxicity, we have to fill it with love," Tony winner Jessie Mueller said to the AP about the concert. "There are really big things at stake. Things we can't save or solidify or safeguard alone. We have to think bigger, we have to ask for help, we have to reach out to one another and band together. I hope this concert can be an example of that."
