Reverend Freakchild - In the tradition of such Blues Reverends as Rev. Gary Davis - such is the irreverent Reverend Freakchild. The Rev has played in many bands including an early incarnation of Soul Coughing with M. Doughty leaving to form the roots rock jam band Bananafish. The Rev. spent 3 years off-off-off Broadway singing blues and spirituals on Sundays at Tobacco Road, the now defunct NYC hippie hangout replete with drug addicts, hookers and music freaks. The Rev has also served as a member and featured soloist of the Metro Mass Gospel Choir performing at such venues as Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall and the Town Hall Theater. The Rev's music has been featured in many TV programs and commercials, and also national radio advertising campaigns. He grew up in Hawaii, holds a degree in philosophy and religion from Northeastern University in Boston and now currently hails from Boulder, Colorado pursuing a Master of Divinity Degree at Naropa University. He continues to perform and preach saying, "Music is my religion. Through song I seek transcendence!"

This includes artists such as Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Phoebe Snow, Levon Helm, Ry Cooder, John Sebastian, Janis Ian, Eric Andersen, The Bee Gees and so many more. His first album Guitarist, won the Montreaux Critics Award for Best Instrumental Album of the year in 1978, and his 12th album, All Tricked Out! Garnered 4 Grammy Nominations. Runka, runka, three chords and a cloud of dust! Dan Baird returns! The Georgia Satellites were one of the most ferocious bands of the 80's and what set them apart from the other 10,000 groups who cranked their amps up to 11 was that their wild riffs and tanked cries came from a band that, from the start, understood it's place in rock tradition and fought hard to solidify it with each recording. The story starts in the early 80's at Hedgen's, a "country club for the spiritually impoverished and emotionally destitute" , as chief songwriter Baird would later identify it. Bassist Keith Christopher, Drummer Mauro Magellan and Guitarists Rick Richards and Dan Baird were playing on the Atlanta circuit in various bar bands such as the Hellhounds, the Brains and the Woodpeckers. These bands would gradually morph into the original Georgia Satellites. #1 fan and road manager Kevin Jennings, sold an EP of early Satellites recordings to an independent UK record label, Making Waves and the EP, Keep The Faith, provoked an extraordinary reaction from the UK music press, which, in turn, woke up the previously indifferent stateside music industry. From seminal post-graffiti works to his rare but robust formal output throughout the 1980s, the show features important artworks and sculptures created over the last 20 years of his life. The exhibition gathers archival materials and artworks from RAMM?LLZ??'s estate and collections around the world, alongside oral histories recently commissioned by Red Bull Arts New York. This historic survey aims to introduce a new generation to an artist-prophet from the edge who found himself, again and again, in the center of everything.

Madison Square Park Conservancy announces its thirty-sixth exhibition, Delirious Matter by artist Diana Al-Hadid. Six new sculptures will be installed across Madison Square Park’s central Oval Lawn, peripheral lawns, and northern reflecting pool. Delirious Matter is the artist’s first major public art project. It will be on view from May 14, 2018- September 3, 2018. In spring 2018, artist Diana Al-Hadid (American, b. Aleppo, Syria 1981, lives and works in Brooklyn) will create newly commissioned sculptures in Madison Square Park. Two wall works will be combined with rows of hedges to form a room suggesting the elegiac beauty of deteriorating structures nestled into plant material. Three reclining female figures, titled Synonym, sit on plinths and will be displayed on the surrounding lawns. In the Park’s reflecting pool, the artist will realize a site-specific sculptural bust of a female figure perched atop a fragmented mountain.
