Sickle Cell Walk - Central Park

The 19th Annual Sickle Cell Walk will be Saturday September 16th at Center Row in Central Park. Hosted by the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients network, a Brooklyn based non-profit the proceeds from the walk go towards client care and scholarships for students with sickle cell. Register at www.sctpnwalk.net Registration begins at 9:00 am and the walk starts at 11:00 am. Registration fee is $20 and all registered walkers will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Please note that you must complete the full 18-mile distance and cross the finish line wearing your race number in order to receive credit for your run and appear in the results.

NYRR Kurt Steiner Cross Country (5k) - New York Road Runners

"If you can hear my voice, you can break…" Those words, spoken by beloved race announcer Kurt Steiner (1921-1993), encouraged countless race finishers to run their hearts out. Steiner was a founding member of NYRR and a competitive runner and race walker. Born in Austria, Steiner was a member of the French Foreign Legion who escaped from enemy captors. Yankees Hall of Fame pitcher Whitey Ford was one of his soldiers in the U.S. Army. Steiner worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help stage the first five-borough New York City Marathon and assisted NYRR with race scoring, race applications, and media activities. Please note: NYRR cross country races do not count toward the 9+1 program.

To participate, meet on the path south of Fornino at Pier 6 at 6:45pm for registration. The run begins at 7:00pm and the course comprises a full 5K. NYRR Open Runs are open to all ages.
