Gentleman Brawlers - Groove
June 21, 2019 - New York

BROOKLYN & QUEENS, NY: Gentleman Brawlers, a Brooklyn 6-Piece, are psychedelic Afro-soul revivalists known for their spooky, stylized tunes drenched in analog tape echo and spring reverb. Drawing influences from throwback electronica and acid rock into their funk-based compositions, the 'Brawlers deliver a live show with plenty of heat, crackling energy, and butt-shaking whomp. While working on the tracks for their first full-length LP (due March 2019), the 'Brawlers have honed their live show on college campuses and the festival circuit. Notable performances took place at Chicago's Navy Pier, Daryl's House, Princeton University's storied Terrace F. Club, Bethlehem's Musikfest, WNYC's The Greene Space, Brooklyn's Knitting Factory, and recently an in-studio appearance on WBEZ Chicago (home of NPR's Wait Wait . . . Don't Tell Me and This American Life). Adventurous art-pop experimenters by trade, the band recently expanded their lineup and narrowed their focus to create a live music project dedicated to just one of the sonic ventures hinted at on previous recordings—the Lagos-by-way-of-Brooklyn Afrobeat sound of their single My Theory—and began performing in NYC jazz & world music cl... White Reaper - Amityville Music Hall
Through June 21, 2019 - Amityville

The World's Best American Band. The bold statement from Louisville's White Reaper is not only the title of their new album but also the band's credo. "Because we are the best," says guitarist/vocalist Tony Esposito. "Just like Muhammad Ali was the greatest, you gotta say it out loud for people to believe it." And with that mentality, the band hit the studio with close friend and producer Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Young Widows) and made a good ol' fashioned in-your-face rock 'n' roll record. "We didn't make this record or start this band because we wanted to come across in a single, certain way," says Esposito. "We just make records that we'd want to hear. We started doing this because it's fun as hell, just as much now as it was when we were 14."

Sublunar Minds is NYC's favorite original indie funk party band. For nearly a decade, Sublunar Minds has been a fixture in the NYC scene, thrilling hipsters, locals, and visitors alike with their original brand of funk rock. From Harlem funk clubs to Brooklyn indie rock joints, wherever people need a beat to groove to and a song to sing along with, Sublunar Minds is there to thrill and entertain. He is joined by Frank Vigilante on harmonica and trumpet, Damian Peters on bass, Sebastiano Agostini on drums, and super-sax-sideman Dave Steinberg for a fresh and funky lineup. Sublunar Minds' first album, Get Hit In Your Soul, was released in 2009 and featured the college radio staples "Dumber Than A Box Of Rocks" and "Let The Good Times Roll." Spencer Krug (of Wolf Parade/Moonface) – In The Round - Le Poisson Rouge
June 22, 2019 - Nw York

18+ After fifteen years of writing and performing with projects like Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, Swan Lake, and Frog eyes, this prolific artist has finally decided to release and tour the music he makes under his own name – Spencer Krug. First gaining attention in the mid 2000s as co-leader of Montreal's rock'n'roll Wolf Parade, then soon after as the voice and mind behind the chaotic Sunset Rubdown, Krug eventually used the now defunct Moonface as an outlet for his more experimental and sporadic solo material. And while he still writes and sings for the recently reactivated Wolf Parade, there remains in him a need to express something less rock-oriented, something more quiet and strange and introverted. So, returning to his first and favorite instrument, the piano, Krug has ventured back into his own fantastic world of pseudo-classical balladeering; poetic lyricism laced with twisted pop sensibility and jazz mimicry

Uranium Club - Brooklyn Bazaar
June 22, 2019 - Brooklyn

You're being urgently, naughtily rushed up the tallest, steepest stairs you've ever climbed. Smile cautiously as the Uranium Club welcomes you into their stinky apartment. You've been here before, right? Oh, that must have been someone else. Do you have a brother or sister? One of the members mumbles some deceptively eloquent bullshit as he hands you a drink. His lips are dark red and chapped; he looks really bad. But the drink is wet, and those stairs had been tall. Sit down, lean back, sip it. There's salt in it, some pulp, some pebbles. It rolls around your tongue, hides between your teeth, a perfectly TV-worthy combination of pleasure and mischief. Swallow it. But spit it out… Spit it out now! It's supposed to go into your ears! How crazy is that? Such a sensation of taste, transmogrified for the realm of sound? Is it Sprite, or is it… music? Careful, engaging, and dare-I-say theatrical vocals over hyper bass-and-drums while other boingy-boingy instruments puke all over it, all over the whole show. That's called synesthesia. Gentle lectures, dangerous storytime, eerie fast-and-slow nightmare riffs, and a taut, bound-and-gagged rhythm section. Boingily-boingily, that's phantasma... (read more)

Bambi Kino - Union Pool
June 22, 2019 - Brooklyn

Bambi Kino — guitarist Mark Rozzo (Maplewood, Champale), bassist Erik Paparazzi (ex Cat Power), guitarist Doug Gillard (ex Guided by Voices, Nada Surf), and drummer Ira Elliot (Nada Surf) — is named after the movie theatre that was the Beatles' first home in Hamburg's notorious Reeperbahn district. Their repertoire is culled from the Beatles' 1960-1962 set lists, based on recordings (in many cases bootlegs) as well as archival research, allowing the band to perform songs the early Beatles were known to have played but never recorded. It's not exactly a tribute: There's no role-playing or wigs or leather trousers. But each Bambi Kino show — typically three or four sets long, consisting of upwards of 80 songs a night, with an array of special guests and even the occasional burlesque performer — is an homage to what the Beatles made possible for all musicians everywhere.

Huckleberry Funk - Rockwood Music Hall 2
June 22, 2019 - New York

This event is 21 and over Huckleberry Funk is a six-piece high-powered funk, rock, and soul band based in Bloomington, Indiana. Their live shows have earned them a reputation as one of the most exciting and entertaining up-and-coming bands in the Midwest. Hailing from Long Island, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Washington D.C., Bloomington, and Junction City, Kansas, the members of Huckleberry Funk were brought together by their shared love for all things soulful and groove-centric. After meeting at a basement jam, founding members Lex Lindsey and Mike Gronsky began writing music together where the band's beginning was sparked. Gabriel Kahane - Rockwood Music Hall 2
June 22, 2019 - New York

This event is 21 and over The day after the 2016 presidential election, singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane boarded a train at Penn Station and traveled 8,980 miles around the continental U.S. with no phone or internet access, talking to dozens of strangers in an attempt to better understand his country and fellow citizens. The resulting album, Book of Travelers, marks Gabriel's debut for Nonesuch Records. By turns sprawling and intimate, this collection of songs is at once a prayer for empathy and reconciliation, as well as an unflinching examination of the complex and often troubled history of the United States.

Previous support for the project includes over 50 radio stations across the US and Canada, Interviews with NPR and WFUV, and being featured in John Platt's On Your Radar as an act you need to know. Musically, Brides & Tunnels both polished and expanded their approach, retaining their narrative depth while bringing a simplicity and space to the sound that allows the words, harmonies and hooks to do the talking. The band lives by their mission of using music and narrative to connect people to things we all have in common. In scope, palette, and composition, Bridges & Tunnels is a more daring and successful leap for a song writer that already kickstarted his career with a promising debut.
