Peter Hook & the Light - Brooklyn Steel
April 27, 2018 - New York

In May 2010, Peter Hook, legendary bassist of both Joy Division and later New Order, decided to honour the outstanding work of his first band and the undoubted genius of the late Ian Curtis by giving people the opportunity to hear both of Joy Division's masterpiece albums, 'Unknown Pleasures' and 'Closer,' live and in their entireties. Backed by his new band The Light, Hooky first played 'Unknown Pleasures' at the Factory club in Manchester on May 18th & 19th 2010 in order to celebrate the life of Ian -- one stand alone sold out night quickly became two, and due to phenomenal worldwide demand, Hooky then began taking the show on the road with headline gigs & major festival appearances throughout Europe, a full tour of Australia & New Zealand as well as the band's first tour of the United States in December which culminated in Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell appearing live with the lads in Los Angeles to sing 'Transmission.' In the first few months of 2011, The Light continued to tour extensively throughout mainland Europe & Scandinavia. Then, exactly one year on from the debut 'Unknown Pleasures' gig, on May 18th & 19th 2011, the band recreated 'Closer' for the first tim... (read more)

Assembly Of Dust - The Bowery Ballroom
April 27, 2018 - New York

"As a child I can remember locking myself in my room with a big old set of headphones and listening to The Band's Music From Big Pink album over and over again," said Reid Genauer, the lead singer and founder of the New York based quintet Assembly of Dust. "Besides loving the hell out of the music, I was intrigued with the production value in the recordings. As I listened I felt almost like I was there in the room with The Band at a moment of perfection. That intimate listening experience drew me in and is what inspired me to be a musician." Drawing on that influence and countless others, over the last ten years Assembly of Dust has crafted a unique sound that recalls the likes of The Band, Traffic and Neil Young. They have taken that early 70's Americana swagger, put their own funky spin on it, and earned comparisons to the next generation of Americana heroes including Ryan Adams, Mumford and Sons and Wilco. Hooky melodies, poetic lyrics, and a profound depth of musicianship promptedUSA Today to say Assembly of Dust has what it takes to "dazzle the Alt-Country universe." The allure of spacious production value has clung with Genauer his whole life and when he listened to Ray... (read more)

Jon Foreman - City Winery
April 27, 2018 - New York

It's easy for a surfer to lose focus and fall into the steady pull of the crashing waves, and it's easy for a musician to forget where they came from under the glaring lights, before a sea of adoring fans screaming their name. On a surfboard or on a stage, the ground is made of different matter, and truth defers to the engulfing chaos. Jon Foreman has treaded these waters for over 20 years, moored by the truth he carries in his bones. In 1996, he began his music career heading an unassuming San Diego-based band, now known all over the world as the multi-platinum, Grammy-winning alt-rock group Switchfoot. Always feeling that there was more music in him than hours in the day, Jon began releasing solo EPs in 2007. Beginning with the Seasons collection, 4 EPs released over the course of a year and followed by The Wonderlands, a collection of 24 songs each representing an hour of the day. Born from solitary introspection, The Wonderlands' 24 tracks blossom with the diverse yet cohesive contributions of 24 different producers, each interpreting the meaning of Jon's vocals through their own instrumental vision.

Ibibio Sound Machine - Brooklyn Bowl
April 28, 2018 - Brooklyn

Fronted by Nigerian singer Eno Williams, Ibibio SoundMachine is a clash of African and electronic elements inspired in equal measure by the golden era of West-African funk & disco and modern post-punk & electro. Weird and wonderful folk stories, recounted to Eno by her family as a child in her mother's Ibibio tongue, form the creative fabric from which the band's unique musical tapestry is woven. Evocative Nigerian poetic imagery set against an edgy Afro-Electro soundscape by producers Max Grunhard, Leon Brichard & Benji Bouton give the band a unique space within the current wave of modern Afrocentric sounds sweeping across the globe. The full lineup of the band consists of Eno Williams (vocals), Alfred Bannerman (guitar), Anselmo Netto (percussion), Leon Brichard (bass/synth), Benji Bouton (Drums, Keyboard / Album), Jose Joyette (Drums / Live ) Max Grunhard (alto sax), Tony Hayden (trombone/synth), Scott Baylis (trumpet) & Ben Hadwen (baritone sax)

Richard X. Heyman - Arlene's Grocery
April 28, 2018 - New York

the veteran singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and DIY recording pioneer -- is a world-class artist whose effortless mastery of popular music idioms is matched by his uncanny knack for infusing classic styles with timeless emotional truths. Heyman was one of the first "one man band" recording artists, following in the grand tradition of Paul McCartney, Emitt Rhodes and Todd Rundgren. His abilities have won him a fiercely loyal grass-roots fan base and reams of acclaim over the past two and a half decades. Critical praise began with the release of Heyman's first album Living Room!! which Rolling Stone magazine proclaimed "an undiscovered treasure." All Music Guide called him "perhaps America's greatest unsung hero of power pop, a songwriter of uncommon talent and intelligence and a one-man rock band without peer," while the Hartford Courant proclaimed him to be "a true heir to [Brian]Wilson's mantle, amid an ocean of pretenders." Rollingstone.com praised Heyman's "hooks galore and ebullient melodies, and lyrics revealing the emotional power that pop can pack into its brevity," while the Chicago Tribune observed, "Heyman creates something fresh from his influences rather than... Kiernan McMullan - Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3
April 28, 2018 - New York

Writing songs to several people in particular and many in general, acoustic-soul songwriter Kiernan McMullan places importance on both honesty and melody as the foundation for his career. Ten years of extensive travel, performing, and crafting songs guided him through five music releases and over 2,000 tour dates by the time 2014 came to a close. Not really being from anywhere, the Irish-Australian brings an outsider's perspective to his international fan base by writing songs about atypical subjects - covering life on the road, love, anti-love, and complacency. Kiernan was influenced by everything from The Roots to Jimmy Eat World, Rage Against The Machine to Otis Redding, and created his own intersection between the genres. By the age of fifteen, the songwriter knew that this was where he fit. The last few years of touring have proven he made the right decision. To date, McMullan has performed at sold-out shows, festivals and tour dates in the US with well-established talent including the likes of Sheryl Crow, Ed Sheeran, Dave Mason and Mat Kearney. In Ireland he accumulated a list of shows with big names including The Coronas, Cathy Davy, and The Blizzards.

Calexico - The Bowery Ballroom
April 29, 2018 - New York

Calexico is a band from Tucson, Arizona that shares a sun-bleached border with many performers and musical styles. Comprised of two core members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, Calexico became its own entity in 1996 with the release of the Spoke LP. Although that record marked the band's first official output, Joey and John had already been playing together as collaborating members of Arizona mainstays Giant Sand. A wide variety of tours, performances (including the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals) and recording sessions as Calexico and with other artists (Neko Case, Victoria Williams, Richard Buckner), as well as their continuing relationship with Giant Sand, allowed the band the opportunity to develop as artists. Over time, Calexico has featured a revolving cast of musicians and instruments, and the band's sonic growth can be traced through its varied releases.
