Neela Vaswani's This Is My Eye Book Launch - Poets House

Attend the picture book launch of Neela Vaswani's This is My Eye. Text and photographs by Neela Vaswani. This is My Eye is a story of perspective, identity, place, and ways of seeing. Look through one young girl's eyes as she travels through her New York City. Neela and musician/composer Milica Paranosic will present the book in a family-oriented performance, followed by interactive photography and musical activities designed to encourage kids to create--and express themselves and their joy. A Junior Library Guild selection, This is My Eye: A New York Story will be available at the event. Light refreshments will be served. 10 River Terrace.

This exhibition celebrates the contributions small press magazines have made to the development of poets, as well as to national and international literary, cultural, and political movements. Emphasizing the material richness and collaborative spirit of experimental publications and publishing communities, the exhibition includes magazines associated with Modernism, the Harlem Renaissance, the Mimeograph Revolution, Conceptual Art, Language Writing, and New Narrative, as well as feminist, queer, and other contemporary communities. 10 River Terrace.
Latin Jazz Big Band Night featuring: The Bronx Conexión - Nuyorican Poets Cafe

The Bronx Conexión is a driving 20-piece Latin-Jazz Big Band lead by drummer/ percussionist, Victor Rendón. The ensemble, with its home base at Lehman College, brings a group of veteran musicians with a wide variety of experience in the field. The Bronx Conexión keeps the tradition of Tito Puente, Machito, Mario Bauza, among others, with it's own rendition of popular tunes as well as original compositions and arrangements by various members in the band. Admission: $10 general admission/$7 with Student ID at the door/$25 two tickets plus two drinks
