CAMECO The Concert for Earth Day - Nuyorican Poets Cafe
April 14, 2018 - New York

Join New York City singer/recording artist CAMECO for an intimate night of live soul, pop, and R+B at one of New York's most iconic and historic performing spaces - The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, in the heart of "Alphabet City" in the East Village. Cameco performs and records throughout NYC both as a soloist and in collaboration with other musical artists, most recently appearing with Stevie Wonder during the "Songs in the Key of Life" tour. Her debut single "Only Love" is available on iTunes and other platforms. The evening's performance is in honor of Earth Day. Proceeds will go to The Sane Energy Project, an NYC-based non-profit organization on the front lines of grassroots advocacy, organizing and action campaigns on behalf of a fossil-fuel free energy future for New York.

Textasy! 5-week poetry workshop w/ Adeena Karasick This workshop will meet the following Sundays: March 25, April 1, April 8, April 15, April 22 TIME/LOCATION: 12 PM 2 PM at Bowery Poetry located at 308 Bowery INSTRUCTOR: Adeena Karasick Taking as its jumping off point the relationship between text and ecstasy (from the gk ex-stasis), this workshop will investigate the pleasure and play within all aspects of language construction. From sound poetry, concrete poetry, renegade, neo-formalist pataphysical, language-based visual art, it will track through the relationship between language, eros, meaning and being, exploring ways artists, philosophers, poets have subverting colonialist structures of language towards an ever widening scope of potential meaning. To this end, we will try on a range of poetic forms which highlight aspects of translation and subversion -- such as 13th C. Kabbalistic alphabetic incantatory techniques, homophonic translations, emojilations, oulippean improvisation, erasure and vispo, exploring ways poems can be both a site of transgression and revolution. PEN World Voices and the Nuyo Present: Havana with Leonardo Padura - Nuyorican Poets Cafe

In his celebrated "Havana Quartet," Leonardo Padura's series of novels featuring Mario Condo, a hard-boiled private detective, the city itself, described as "a geography of human failings" by The New Yorker, is a major character worth exploring and experiencing in its own right. But Padura, one of Cuba's best-known writers, whose books' dynamic host of characters include Leon Trotsky and Ernest Hemingway, also chronicles the country as it lurched from the Fidel Castro era to present-day quasi capitalism. Padura talks about his country and the city he has made his own.

This showcase and open mic has featured Company Flow, Canibus, Mos Def, M.C. Search, Willie Perdomo, Saul Williams, and Suheir Hammad, among others. The open mic gives new artists a chance to perform in front of an audience. Latin Jazz Big Band Night Featuring: the Bronx ConexióN - Nuyorican Poets Café

The Bronx Conexión is a driving 20-piece Latin-Jazz Big Band lead by drummer/ percussionist, Victor Rendón. The ensemble, with its home base at Lehman College, brings a group of veteran musicians with a wide variety of experience in the field. The Bronx Conexión keeps the tradition of Tito Puente, Machito, Mario Bauza, among others, with it's own rendition of popular tunes as well as original compositions and arrangements by various members in the band.
