Verdi's Magnificent Aida at the Metropolitan Opera House - Metropolitan Opera House
Through January 18, 2019 - New York

The grandest of grand operas, Giuseppe Verdi's Aida strikes a brilliant balance of spectacular pageantry and emotional intimacy. Composed at the request of the King of Egypt for the opening of the Suez Canal in 1871, the opera tells the tragic tale of a love triangle in which an enslaved Ethiopian princess' love for the military leader Radames is doomed by his selection as the future groom of the Pharaoh's daughter. Nicola Luisotti and Plácido Domingo conduct, while commanding singers -- Anna Netrebko, Anita Rachvelishvili, Sondra Radvanovsky, Dolora Zajick, Aleksandrs Antonenko and Yonghoon Lee -- perform on stage. Aida is sung in Italian with Met titles in English, German, Italian and Spanish.
